Mercy agrees, as long as Emmi helps around the house, but Emmi is outraged. Saba asks Mercy to take care of Emmi for her as she goes on her journey to find Lugh. The journey takes about 5 days, and by the end of it, both girls can barely move, they are so tired and hungry.

They kidnap Lugh and kill Saba's father and the man leading them. Lugh, however, doesn't blame Emmi, and showers her in love, making Emmi's favorite Lugh.Ī little into the book, four men suddenly come, lead by a person Saba has only seen a couple of times in her life. Saba blames Emmi for her mother's death, because her mother died two days after giving birth to Emmi, due to blood loss. Due to this, Saba and her family, consisting of her twin brother (who she loves more than life itself), Lugh, her insane father, and her younger sister, Emmi, whose been driving her insane herself. They live near a lake, named Silverlake, which has been in a drought for about 6 months. Saba's family has lived in almost complete isolation for all of Saba's life. Lugh knows what to think for himself, Saba just does whatever he tells her to. The twins are complete opposites- Lugh is funny, Saba is strict. The way that Lugh would always lead, and Saba would always follow. The book starts off by explaining Saba and Lugh's relationship in just a couple of words, as prologue.
